Ending March Woes

Uh, March is over. It's about time! March was always a bad month for me. Doldrums. I seem to always get burnt out, dumped, pulled over, heartbroken, or some other unbelievable stuff hits me in March. For me, it's usually the least wonderful time of the year. I suppose March still has 13 hours and 48 minutes to wreak havoc in my life, but I'll be glad when it's over.

April is always a big month. Sometimes, it's for legit reasons, and sometimes not. You decide...

This April marks the end of year TEN in the Grace FBL. That's the Grace "Fantasy Basketball League" that was started in Jason Knavel's dorm room way back in the fall of 1994. One might say it is "Unbeevable" for a league to last this long. Even less probable is the littany of "almost successes" that I have had in this league. My team, the "Village Idiots," has finished SECOND place SEVEN times! I do take solace in the fact that I have won two championship trophies (yes, we have trophies, and they are classic), and that even when I am runner-up at least TEN of my friends are looking up at me in the standings. Though I am not a trash talker by nature, I do like to win, and I do enjoy following the NBA.

Anyway, April 14th marks the end of year 10. And, to nobody's suprise, I enter the last three weeks of the season in second place. Will I catch Dave Pacheco and halt his quest for a second championship? Will I be the first FBL owner to gain that elusive third title? If you care, that issue seems to be up to Elton Brand, Amare Stoudemire, and Stephon Marbury. Pacheco has become a force to be reckoned with, especially when a guy lands Dirk Nowitzki for absolutely nothing. Dude should be prosecuted on that one. Okay, enough FBL-speak - needless to say, April is a big month.

Let's return to "news that matters in the grand scheme of things"

Well, we're headed to Chicago in a few weeks to see Jennie's family and to take a shower. I plan to take several during our trip, actually. Why do they call them "baby showers"? Ours is a complex world.

At left is Okka-Linn Holzmann, the brand-new daughter of my Grace friends Hans & Sigrid Holzmann, born Saturday - in Germany. It is great to live in a time when my friends in Germany can just send a picture instantly to my computer, and now I can introduce you to Okka-Linn. I wonder if she'll ever meet Allison. We'd love to go to Germany sometime, of course! "Ich esse mittaq mid dein deutzchen!"
